Eugene O'Brien Driver Development: How fast do you want to go?

Drivers coached by Eugene O'Brien Driver Development

J.W.
BRDC Rising Star

"On my first coaching day with Eugene I was just 15 years old and couldn't even change gear properly! Within 12 months I'd had 7 wins in Formula Ford Zetec and set a new lap record on Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit. That success helped secure my drive with Championship winning team Manor Motorsport in Formula Renault and my selection as a BRDC Rising Star"

B.A.
Multiple Class Winner

(Written by M.A., B's father) Having raced a lightweight Aston Martin DB4 for several years including in TocaTour, it was no surprise that my son B, 18, wanted to follow in my footsteps. It was vital to me that B enjoyed the best professional instruction from the outset to ensure that he was both competitive and safe.

Eugene O'Brien Driver Development came highly recommended through my race circles. In just 12 months, they've taken my son from a total novice with no race licence to multiple class winner in his FIA spec Lotus Cortina in the UK and Europe. To be able to achieve this against some of the top drivers including ex-F1 drivers and ex-Touring Car Champions is testament to the superb coaching he's received, and continues to receive through their management of his race programme today.

D.B.
Renaultsports Clio Cup Champion and BTC Driver

I'd never realised how much of a difference high quality driver coaching could make. The facts speak for themselves: directly after Eugene O'Brien Driver Development started helping me, I won the next three races on the trot, came second in the following two, and went on to win arguably the toughest championship in the UK.

I have to thank Eugene and his staff for helping me win the Clio Championship and secure the Halfords BTC drive.

Caterham Roadsports & Superlights Championships

Eugene O'Brien Driver Development has been providing me with driver coaching over two highly successful seasons - last year in Caterham Roadsports, and this year in Superlights which supported British GTs.

Having always struggled money-wise, I have to make sure every penny and every lap of testing is effective as possible. I can't afford wasted laps! This is where their experience and expertise comes into play. Whilst others are pounding round and round racking up hundreds of miles, I spend more time in the pits than on the track, learning where I can find the next tenth either from my driving or a set-up change. It's a strategy that's worked - I've been in the top six on all but one occasion over two full seasons, and 50% of my finishes have been podiums.

P.S.
Kumho BMW Challenge Champion

Whilst I'm clearly "ancient" at 51, I guess I'm still a reasonably quick club driver. I've been racing for nearly ten years - mainly in the Kumho BMW Challenge and Radical Prosports, plus some Group N level endurance racing within the EERC and at the Nurburgring.

At the beginning, I booked some professional race tuition with two instructors for comparison purposes (both advertised in the MSA magazine) : former BTCC driver Eugene O'Brien and one other.

Both were good but Eugene proved to be far more useful to me. For the first time I'd found a race instructor who, in addition to the usual good advice, was able to show me actual driving techniques which have enabled me to improve my lap times significantly.

For any competitor looking for "master class" tuition, I unreservedly recommend Eugene O'Brien Driver Development - except to those guys I race against!

P.W.
BTC Independent Class 2003/4 & Super Coupe Class Champion

I met Eugene when he was running the Silverstone Drive Intensive Race Course in 1998. Since then he's helped me choose what to drive, source good teams, and has provided extensive assistance as a racing coach.

To go from a total novice, to Rover Tomcat Class Champion in only my second season of racing, is testament to the coaching and other help I've had from Eugene. Full commitment, hard-work, high relevance, motivated and motivating, are just some of the qualities that come to mind.

I can honestly say that if you've got the innate skills, no-one will bring them out as well as Eugene O'Brien Driver Development can. It's an easy decision to my mind, a "no-brainer". There's usually a lot more time to be found in the driver than in the car, so spend some of your racing budget on getting you to be the best you can be. That's really what it's all about, after all.
