Flying vet Darren Partridge had his first ever visit to the UK’s fastest circuit Thruxton, driving his very own MX5 race car with Euge’s in-car assistance. Euge had set some homework that Darren had diligently completed and he was able to learn the daunting circuit extremely quickly. By late morning he was trying to take the infamous Church corner flat out, which he later discovered is not quite possible in an MX5! A massive 100mph spin ensued prompting a shaken but not stirred Euge to call for an early lunch with de-brief!!
Eugene also coached several other drivers during April at a variety of tracks. This included the first round of the 2015 Fun Cup Championship, on Silverstone International Circuit. Although not actually running any cars any longer in that series Euge still looks after several Fun Cup drivers. Once again Team X-Cat (Robert, Simon and a returning Martin Harris) had a strong run to add to their increasing tally of top six finishes, and car 21’s novices (Marcus, Will and Andrew) were starting to mix it with much more experienced rivals, despite their engine being below par. Euge has also been working closely with Travis drummer Neil Primrose who drove quite brilliantly to take his first ever Fun Cup race win, beating several professional racing drivers along the way!
In Formula 4, Jordan Albert – who Eugene coached from the age of 16 before he could even drive a road car – took his first ever race win at Oulton Park.
The secret project we alluded to in the previous newsletter was slightly delayed due to a technical hitch but we will be able to bring you news and pictures of that next time, along with a report on the Donington Historic Festival when Euge is to contest a prestigious two-driver race with Mike Whitaker in his mighty Mustang.
Looks like Spring is here…and the racing season is about to start so get in touch today if you feel you would benefit from Euge’s expertise!
