The past couple of months have been busy for Euge, seeing him travelling around the country spending days at many different tracks.
In August, he did a test day at Croft with Graham Pattle in the Lotus Cortina preparing for a historic race meeting at the circuit. Euge and Graham have done a lot of work together in the Lotus so there was no doubt Graham was going to do well in his race.
A familiar face returned to Eugene O’Brien Driver Development! Having spent the last four years racing motorcycles, Peter Hobday did a track day at Silverstone in Euge’s MR2. Peter is planning to return to car racing next year in either the MR2 or MX5 and with Euge’s help will no doubt be very successful.
Euge raced in a Fun Cup race at Donington, also coaching the drivers on the Thursday before the event. Unfortunately some bad luck meant that the race didn’t go completely according to plan, but both cars 21 and 104 had some really good lap times – no doubt the results will be better next time.
Euge has also continued coaching Mike Whitaker, helping him to secure another win in the TVR Griffith at Oulton Park Gold Cup. Massive congratulations to Mike!
A slightly more unusual mission for Eugene in August too! He spent the day at a circuit doing high performance driving of a modified Aston Martin for TV filming. However this is still top secret so no further details yet!
This busy schedule continued into September for Euge as well. One of the highlights last month was an interesting day at Donington with Mark Burton in a Mustang (pictured) and Graham Pattle in a Lotus Cortina.
Graham was looking for Eugene’s feedback to help decide on priorities for developing the car during its winter rebuild. For Mark it was his first outing in the ex-Neil Brown Mustang, so Euge was advising Mark on how best to acclimatise and change his driving style to suit a car very different to any he had previously driven! It was a very productive day and will be followed-up by a similar outing at Silverstone.
Neil Walker was back after a 6-month layoff while he had to focus on business commitments; his Bedford day with Eugene in the dual-steering MX5 was just what he needed! He plans more outings with Euge before the end of 2015 including a corporate track day in December as a thank you to his hard working staff.
Other circuit activities included an FF1600 test day with Richard Tarling’s Van Diemen FF1600 car, the annual Fun Cup trip to Anglesey, and a Lotus Elise Trophy test day with new client Peter Mansfield who impressed greatly with his discipline and rate of improvement.
The huge number of people Euge has helped over August and September is testament to his skills as a racing driver and the brilliant reputation he has in the racing world. Get in touch if you need his expertise!
